As part of its community legal education initiative, North Melbourne Legal Service has commenced the following projects:
- NMLS CALD Project: a continuing community legal education project for culturally and linguistically diverse communities in the catchment area of NMLS, funded by the City of Melbourne.
- Public Information Project: providing information to the public in the form of publications and brochures. NMLS is currently revising a new edition of its Getting Past your Past: Moving on from a Police Record in Victoria (PDF 1.2 Mb), a useful community publication providing legal information as to the exact meaning and consequence of having a police record or conviction, what it can be used for, and in which circumstances someone with a police record is required to disclose this record: eg if seeking employment, volunteer positions, or registration for a trade or profession.
- Awareness and Research Project: This project includes raising awareness in the local community through research initiatives. NMLS is currently conducting research on the current legal need in the North Melbourne, Carlton, CBD and Parkville area in light of changing demographics and cultural groups.
